London Fashion Week - What did I miss? Everything actually!
I hate to admit it but London Fashion Week AW 2014 had completely escaped my mind; I have been so busy with house redecoration and some exciting changes to our website (not to mention a baby and a toddler at home!) that I nearly forgot about fashion Week altogether.
In a free moment on the weekend I had a brief look online for some of the most interesting and talked about shows and although there was a lot to look at, Moschino’s Barbie-themed Milan show definitely stood out as the one that caused the biggest stir.
With their bubblegum pink outfits and platinum blonde hair, the Moschino models looked as though Barbie had come to life. To top it all off they strutted down the catwalk to the sound of Aqua’s oh so 90s hit “Barbie Girl”, with one brave model even roller-skating, dressed in (almost) head to toe pink! Having seen all of the photos, I think I can safely say that watching one of those shows must have been a real blast from the past – and a little bit surreal!
I also noticed a few articles talking about the sustainable fashion initiative Estethica, something that hugely interested me and the team at VidaVida. From what I read, since it was founded in 2006, Estethica has been growing and growing each season. This year they exhibited a selection of designers – four emerging and eight established – chosen not only for their design vision but also for their ethical credentials. With more and more pressure from campaigners and consumers for large brands to become more sustainable, well-known companies such as Burberry are finally beginning to take steps towards a more viable future for fashion.
This is obviously just a start, but hopefully greater expectations of these brands will yield greater results and who knows, perhaps sustainability will be Moschino’s theme for S/S 2015?
